Free dental health workshop – CFD Welwyn

Centre for Dentistry Welwyn Garden City are holding a free workshop to educate children about their oral health. This session will take place on Saturday 16th March at 12pm, at the dental practice inside Sainsbury’s on Church Road, Welwyn Garden City. All parents and children are invited.

Tooth decay and extractions in children is on the rise so now, more than ever, it’s important for children to attend regular dental check-ups. 90% of tooth decay is due to sugary diets and poor oral hygiene, which is entirely preventable.

That is why Centre for Dentistry are welcoming all children of all ages to this free event. It is never too early for children to start building a good relationship with a dental team they can trust into adulthood and start taking good care of their teeth. The earlier children visit the dentist, the more relaxed they will be and they are far less likely to require treatment later on.

Parents play a vital role in encouraging good brushing habits from an early age and limiting a child’s sugar consumption.

Dr Davina Parmar, Dentist at Centre for Dentistry Welwyn Garden City says:
“Limiting the amount of sugar you eat and drink is important to prevent tooth decay. A lot of the sugars we love to eat are mostly found in sweets and chocolate and you’ll be seeing these things everywhere soon for Easter! Children should be encouraged to brush twice a day for two minutes each time, once first thing in the morning and once last thing before bedtime. It is important they do not eat or drink anything after that last brush before bedtime too.”

By attending the workshop, parents and children will understand how to effectively brush their teeth and what to expect when contacting your dentist and attending an appointment. There will also be an interactive demonstration into how much sugar is in everyday drinks and how drinking them regularly may impact on our oral health.

At Centre for Dentistry, children’s check-ups and fluoride application are free for children under 11 years old with a registered parent or guardian and for children 11 years and above, the price is just £15.

The team at Centre for Dentistry Welwyn Garden City look forward to welcoming you to the practice on Saturday 16th March.
