Invisalign with Ryan Abbasi

More and more people are opting for adult braces to improve their smile. Dr Ryan Abbasi, Dentist at Centre for Dentistry Thanet, talks to us about orthodontics and why he recommends Invisalign.

I see several patients a week that ask me how they can improve the appearance of their smile. For many, aligning their teeth can be an effective way of restoring their confidence. There are a number of options when it comes to straightening teeth, one of which is the Invisalign system.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of removable, clear braces (or ‘aligners’), designed to straighten teeth without the use of metal brackets, bands or wires.

How does it work?

The aligners are custom-made and changed every one or two weeks. The teeth move gradually with each set, little by little, until the desired position is achieved.

Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are discreet and fully removable. They are designed to be worn 22 out of 24 hours of the day and are removed for eating and cleaning.

How long does it take?

Most cases take around six to twelve months to reach the final position, although complex cases may be longer. You must have all your adult teeth through to be considered for this treatment.

What does it involve?

Following a free Invisalign consultation, you may then choose to book an appointment to have photos of your mouth, X-rays and moulds taken.

This information along with a prescription for your treatment is sent to Invisalign technicians to produce a Clincheck.

What’s a Clincheck?

A Clincheck is a 3D simulation of your teeth, unique to Invisalign.

Your teeth will be shown on the computer as they are now, along with a video of how we plan to move them over the course of your treatment. This is also an opportunity to see the expected final result and to tweak any specific teeth that you want to move, before treatment even begins.

What are the health benefits?

Teeth that are too crowded or too widely spaced can be difficult to keep clean. When teeth are properly aligned, it can be easier to brush, floss and clean interdentally.

Bad breath, gingivitis, gum disease and tooth decay are all caused by bacteria and the likelihood of improving your oral health can be increased with teeth that are easier to keep clean.
